The foundation was established in November 2009 with the aim of promoting the socio-cultural function of the Grote of St. Gudulakerk in Lochem. n the Grote or St. Gudulakerk, concerts have been organized by the Cultural Commission of the Grote Kerk Lochem Foundation since the restoration of the church building in the seventies of the last century.
In 2004, the new organist of the Gudulakerk proposed to expand the cultural activities in the church building. According to her, the church, which is literally in the center of the city, should also be able to play a more central role culturally (as was common in the Middle Ages). The underlying idea is that such a role indirectly also ensures the maintenance of the building.
